Fruit Never out of Season
“Self-Control”
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,
and SELF-CONTROL…”
-Galatians 5:22
We do not have to be “Out of Control.”
God wants people to see Christians that demonstrate “self-control.”
“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
–Philippians 4:12,13
“Out of Control”
Not under management or direction; Unmanageable or wild.
“Self-Control”
“To get a hold of”
“To get a grip on”
Being “self-controlled”
Does not mean being self-DIRECTED,
It means being GOD-directed.
Seeing the “BIG PICTURE” in situations can help us to be Self-Controlled “He was oppressed and afflicted, YET he did NOT open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did NOT open his mouth.
8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away…10 Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin… my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities… he bore the sin of many…” -Isaiah 53:7-11
“They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. 30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. 31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.”

Fight the temptation to look out for “number one” in a worldly way.
John 3:16 vs. James 3:16
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

A large part of Self-Control is not letting others control you.
1. Don’t let people fool you.
If something seems “To good to be true,”
2. Don’t let people isolate you.
3. Don’t let people change you
4. Don’t let people cut you down and destroy
a healthy self-confidence.
5. Don’t let others intimidate you so that you
do not ask them questions.
Controllers get frustrated with questions.
Joseph trusted in God’s faithfulness.
Joseph was under God’s control.
“The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.”
-Genesis 39:7
Self-Control and Temptation
“No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you

“And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her.”

You are under the control of the thing that has an influence over you, whether healthy or unhealthy.
