“God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
-Romans 5:8
A man went on a ski trip to Colorado and was knocked unconscious by a chairlift.
The insurance company refused to pay his medical bills.
He called the insurance company to find out why.
The insurance rep said;
“We are not paying because of the fact that, you got hit in the head by a chairlift.”
The injured skier said;
“So what. That’s what I have insurance for.”
The insurance rep repeated;
“But you got hit in the head by a chairlift.”
Then he went on to say;
“That makes you an idiot, and we consider that to be a preexisting condition.”
What they were really saying was that acting
like an idiot will cost you.
While that joke may be funny, or if you don’t think funny, then at least clever, it is not so funny when the things that we “do” or “do not do” in our
lives COST us.
I Thank God that he does not treat us like the
insurance rep in the above joke.
God does not view us as idiots.
Though sin is a preexisting condition (Original Sin),
Jesus completely forgave us on the cross.
While it is true that at times we say and do idiotic “things”,
it is not true that we are “Idiots”.
Robert Young (Marcus Welby, M.D.) said in a commercial,
“I’m not a real doctor, I just play one on TV.
So we should say about ourselves;
“I’m not a real idiot, I just play one from time to time.”
Don’t continually beat yourself up for playing the idiot.
For those of us who do, it would do us more good
to spend that same time remembering God’s goodness, love for us and the forgiveness already given.
So, be more aware of the things that you say and do.
(Some of them could be idiotic).
And be more aware of how God views you.
You are his child.
He loves you.
You are not an idiot.
“God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
-Romans 5:8
“God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
[Grace is love which is undeserved]
While we were still sinners,
[playing “the role” of an idiot]
Christ died for us.”
[The idiotic things that we say and do that are sin]
-Romans 5:8
Prayer
Lord, I thank you that you love me.
I thank you that you do not think that I “am” an idiot,
even though others, including myself,
at times think that I am.
Help me to acknowledge when I sin and
“play the role” of the idiot.
And help me to distinguish the difference between “Playing” the idiot and “Being” the idiot.
Help me to act like your child and receive all of the blessings of living a clean, simple and innocent life.
In Jesus’ name.
God bless you… Pastor Dave
