Remembering the Sacrifice

SACRIFICE

“Greater love has no one than this:

to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

–John 15:13

The Cross

At the Cross was the Greatest Battle that could ever be fought and won.

Death has been swallowed up in VICTORY. 55 Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?… 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully [Sacrifice] to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

-2 Corinthians 15:54-58

Why are there Wars?

What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? 2 You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. 3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” [Selfishness] “7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you… 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”

-James 4:1-10

The answer to Selfishness is Sacrifice.

Memorial Day remembers Sacrifice.

The answer to our Needs is Jesus, not aggressiveness and force.

God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

-Philippians 4:19

FREEDOM

You do not have to stay enslaved to anything that you do not want to be enslaved to.

“People are slaves to whatever masters them.”

-2 Peter 2:19

“…if you can gain your freedom, do so.”

-1 Corinthians 7:21

“You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of human beings.”

-1 Corinthians 7:23

God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

-Philippians 4:19

“I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.”

- Psalm 119:45

Everyone needs Freedom from a variety of things.

Thank the Lord.

Thank a Veteran on behalf of his or her fallen friends and comrades.

FREEDOM

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

-Galatians 5:2
