Mother's Day
“God in the Context of Family on Mother’s Day”
“I will never forget you.”
-Isaiah 49:15
1. We are all sinful, therefore we will never fully show respect or appreciation for the good things in our lives, for example Mothers.
That is why we prayed earlier:
Lord, bless mothers that they be Godly examples of Your unconditional love. Where there needs to be thanksgiving, let thanksgiving reign. Where there needs to be understanding, let understanding reign. Where there needs to be strength, let the strength of Your mighty hand empower us. Where there needs to be healing, let healing take place. Where there needs to be forgiveness, enable the forgiveness that Jesus provides to shower God’s blessings upon all of us.
2. There will be deficiencies even in the best of families. [Original Sin]
That is why Ephesians 5 highlights the need for attention to be given by Husbands to love their wives as Jesus loved the church and gave himself up for her, and for wives to respect their husbands.
God Addresses A Family Problem
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne?”
-Isaiah 49:15
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will never forget you.”
-Isaiah 49:15
“I will never forget you.”
-Isaiah 49:15
3. God will play the roles that are missing in your life.
He may even provide others to “stand in” for him in the roles that we need.
“A father to the fatherless…
[“Father” represents the “family” unit]
God sets the lonely in families…”
-Psalm 68:4-6
Father to the fatherless…
Mother to the motherless…
Brother to the brotherless…
Sister to the sisterless…
“Honor her for all that her hands have done…”
-Proverbs 31:31
Helping Mothers and Mother-Figures of all ages…
Make sure to care for yourself
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus…”
-Philippians 2:3-5
It is always assumed people would “look out for” themselves and “take care of” themselves.
The point here is look out for and help take care of others as well.
It is often the case with mothers that they are putting so much care into their children that they personally suffer as a result.
Let’s ALL help take care of moms!
“I will never forget you.”
-Isaiah 49:15
