No Fear

“Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on

ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed

the crowd… Later that night… the boat was already a

considerable distance from land, buffeted by the

waves because the wind was against it. 25 Shortly

before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.

26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake,

they were terrified. [Paralyzing Fear] “It’s a ghost,”

they said, and cried out in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them:

Take courage

It is I.

Don’t be afraid.

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come

to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked

on the water and came toward Jesus.

30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid [FEAR]

and, beginning to sink, cried out, Lord, save me!”

[A fantastic response to fear]

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and

caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did

you doubt?”… they climbed into the boat, the wind

died down... those who were in the boat worshiped

him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

-Matthew 14:22

You may or may not have heard about the race car

driver Brian Simo, but you may have heard of

his clothing line.

In 1985 he created the "No Fear" clothing line.

But when is "No Fear" really synonymous

for “Stupidity"?

For example, a woman fell to her death on a very

steep day hike at Yosemite National Park.

The hike does not require any special expertise,

but it is challenging, and it should never

be attempted if there is any chance of rain.

The granite dome becomes very slick and dangerous

in rainy weather.

Still many hikers attempt the climb ill-prepared,

over confident of their skills and

of the weather conditions.

The bible verses that address the issue of fear,

are not just a decal or a T-shirt saying "No Fear".

They are not about taking foolish risks.

The real "No Fear" lifestyle is found in those,

who like Peter would say to Jesus, "Lord, Save me!"

This Sunday I will begin a series on Fear

and how to deal with it.

I look forward to seeing many of you in worship

8:00am or 9:45am.

God bless you and until Sunday,

I share with you the words of Jesus;

“Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace

that I give you. I do not give it as the world does.

Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid.”

-John 14:27
