Prayer Series - Part 10 - Part 2

Part 10

Part 2

“Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

10 your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us today our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.

-Matthew 6

The Lord’s Prayer

Part 10

Part 2

“Lead us not into Temptation,

but deliver us from the Evil One

We need to know the evil that

we are asking God to be delivered from.

Recognize the Enemy’s strategies

Main Strategy

Anything that gets us to break the 1st Commandment.

“Have no other God’s before me.”

Satan’s attack upon:

* God’s Word

(to us about his love for us)

“Did God really say…”

* God’s Work for us

(for us to be other centered)

Isaiah 14:12-15

“How you have fallen from heaven…

You have been cast down to the earth…

13 You said in your heart,

I will ascend to the heavens;

I will raise my throne above the stars of God;

I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,

on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon.

I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;

I will make myself like the Most High.”

Satan’s WAR towards God

1. I don’t like or want my “rank” anymore.

2. Murdered the relationship between God and Adam & Eve.

3. Kill the promised Savior to come.

“… you were [Became] filled with violence, and you sinned.

So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. 17 Your heart became proud on account of your beauty…”

-Ezekiel 28:16,17

Many people attack God and his Word blaming him for violence…

BUT Satan started it.

The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” 14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, “Cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.

“May the desert tribes bow before him

and his enemies lick the dust.”

-Psalm 72:9

“As in the days when you came out of Egypt, I will show them my wonders” …They will put their hands over their mouths and their ears will become deaf. 17 They will lick dust like a snake, like creatures that crawl on the ground.” Micah 7:16,17

Popular phrase…

“Another one bites the dust.”

They will come trembling out of their dens, they will turn in fear to the Lord our God and will be afraid of you.18 Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression

-Micah 7:15-18

We win.

We are fighting FROM victory.

We are not fighting FOR it.

Jesus already won victory on the cross.

“… the one [Jesus] who is in you is greater than the one [Satan]

who is in the world.”

-1 John 4:4

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around

like a roaring lion looking for

someone to devour.”

-1 Peter 5:8

“He tried but he couldn’t do it”

“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” –Gen. 3:15

The Corruption of Cain…

Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man.”

(NOTE: The Hebrew reads:

“I have gotten a man, the Lord”

2 Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. 3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. 4 And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. 6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” 8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. 9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?”

-Genesis 4:1-9

The corruption of Adam’s genealogy

BEFORE the Flood…

(See Genesis 6)

When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.” [120 Years] 4 The NEPHILIM were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. 5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7 So the Lord said, I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.” 8 BUT Noah found favor [Hebrew word for “Grace”] in the eyes of the Lord.

-Genesis 6:1-8

“If he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; 6 if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them

an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly…”

-2 Peter 1:6

War in the OT was as like a sermon illustration of what the final judgment will be in the end.

Satan Instigates Conflict

“WHAT causes FIGHTS and QUARRELS among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire BUT do NOT have, so you kill. You covet BUT you CANNOT get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

-James 4:1-7

An Autobiography in 5 Chapters:

Chapter 1

I walk down the street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in.

I am lost ... I am helpless. It isn't my fault.

It takes me forever to find a way out.

Chapter 2

I walk down the same street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I pretend I don't see it.

I fall in again.

I can't believe I am in the same place but,

it isn't my fault.

It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter 3

I walk down the same street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I see it is there.

I still fall in ... it's a habit. my eyes are open

I know where I am.

It is my fault.

I get out immediately.

Chapter 4

I walk down the same street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I walk around it.

Chapter 5

I walk down another street.

“I will put no worthless thing before my eyes.”

-Psalm 101:3
