The Book of Proverbs
Part 2
“Wisdom” has you on speed dial.
Children seem to always have a lot of fun pretending to be animals.
The opposite of that is called an
“An·thro·po·mor·phism”
When a non-human thing behaves like a human.
“Wisdom” has YOU on Speed Dial.
If Wisdom was Human, what would she say to you?
Proverbs 9
Wisdom Calls to Us
(Wisdom is “Personified”, if it were a person here is what it might say)
“Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars. 2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table. 3 She has sent out her servants, and she calls from the highest point of the city, 4 “Let all who are simple come to my house!” To those who have no sense she says, 5 “Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. 6 Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight. Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults; whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse. 8 Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you.”
Treat wisdom like an expensive pearl.
Be very careful who you give it to.
“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.”
-Matthew 7:6
These are the “Mockers” in Prov 9:7
Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults; whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse. 8 Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you.”
Treat wisdom like an expensive pearl.
Be very careful who you give it to.
People need to have a “Readiness” for things.
God wants good things more for you than you want for yourself.
* Wisdom knows how to read the audience.
* Beware of “Mockers”.
* If someone is a mocker they tease, make fun of, ridicule, degrade and often grossly exaggerate not acting very godly.
However, the opposite is true as well
“Rebuke the wise and they will love you. 9 Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.”
[The WISE will get wiser and smarter.]
10 The fear [Respect] of the Lord is the beginning [Foundation] of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. 11 For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. 12 If you are wise, your wisdom
will reward you…”
Jesus who is Wisdom says come follow me.
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
-Matthew 4:19
Jesus has you on Speed Dial too.
“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.”
-Psalm 127:1
(Build your house on the rock -Mt. 7:24+)
“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established.”
-Proverbs 24:3
17 “But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18 They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. 20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.”
–Jude 1:17-21
15 “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock [The truth of Jesus as Messiah] I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will NOT overcome it.”
-Matthew 16:15-18
When you are having troubles, who are you going to call?
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
-Matthew 11:28
Both Jesus and his Wisdom gives us peace and rest.
Wisdom to know what to do, and what not to do.
Wisdom & Jesus gives us limits.
God never expects us to do more than is possible for us to do.
God does expect and want from us a desire to want for ourselves what He wants for us.
(that of course is the very best)
Seek Jesus, Seek Wisdom
“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
-Matthew 6:33
