“Trust God in ‘How’ he chooses to Provide” (Manna/Quail)
God is enough… and with him, you are enough too!

EXODUS 16
God Provides Manna and Quail 2½ Months later
“… on the 15th day of the 2nd month after they had come out of Egypt. 2 … the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. 3 The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you [It was actually God who brought them out and it was not for the purpose of starving them] have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.” 4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you… go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow MY instructions.
Q: Do you like following YOUR OWN instructions?
Q: Do you like doing things YOUR OWN way?
Good – If it is not against God’s way.
Bad – If it is against God’s way.
We need to trust God even when we are:
Hungry
Thirsty
Afraid
Unsure of the future…
With Him, you are enough!
Isaiah 55
“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost… [Grace, undeserved] Listen, listen [Follow His instructions] to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. 3 Give ear … that you may live. “… turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy …for he will freely pardon. 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts… 11 my word [Promises] that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. 12 You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace…” [They were supposed to have learned from their ancestors that went through the Red Sea]
God does not waste anything.
Learn from the past.
“For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

Q: Why don’t we think that we ever have enough or are enough?
With God we “Do” and we “Are”?
Temptation/Testing
“Lord; give me understanding
according to YOUR word.”

5 On the 6th day they are to prepare what they bring in, and that is to be twice as much as they gather on the other days.”… 12 ‘At twilight you will eat meat, [Quail] and in the morning you will be filled with bread. [v.31 ”The people of Israel called the bread manna. It was white like coriander seed and tasted like wafers made with honey.” “What is it?”] 14 When the dew was gone, thin flakes like frost on the ground appeared on the desert floor. “No one is to keep any of it until morning.” 20 However, some of them paid no attention to Moses; they kept part of it until morning, but it was full of maggots and began to smell… 21 Each morning everyone gathered as much as they needed… when the sun grew hot, it melted away…27 Nevertheless, some of the people went out on the seventh day [Sabbath day of rest] to gather it, but they found none…. 35 The Israelites ate manna forty years… until… the border of Canaan. [the point is that God provided/sustained them all that time until they went into the Promised Land, not that they necessarily ate only manna.]
EXODUS 17
Water From the Rock
“The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the Lord commanded. [Led them] They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. 2 So they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.”…They said, “Why [Question] did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?” 4 Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “What [Question] am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.” 5 The Lord answered Moses, [Answer] “Go out in front of the people. … take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. 6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.”…
Note: At a later time, Moses disobeyed God by striking another rock to get water when God instructed him to speak to the rock. In Moses’ anger, he disobeyed God doing it HIS OWN WAY and suffered for it. It was the public sin of disobeying God in the sight of the people, therefore was not permitted to go into the Promised Land.
The Amalekites Defeated
8 The Amalekites [Grandson of Esau (Genesis 36:12] came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 Moses said to Joshua, [Israel’s military commander] “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”… 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword…16… the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.”
Trust God, but also follow his instructions.
