Mount Sinai - “Boundaries”
Commandments 1-3
My Goal = That your faith grows more than your knowledge.
Boundaries are
Good/Loving
The 10 Commandments are Boundaries that GOD himself has set for OUR good.
EXODUS 19
Mount Sinai Highlights
* 1“On the 1st day of the third month after the Israelites left Egypt… [2 weeks after God sent the manna] Israel camped … in front of the mountain.” [Sinai]
*3 days later Moses goes up to get 10 Comm.
12 Put limits [Boundaries] for the people around the mountain and tell them, ‘Be careful that you do not go up the mountain or touch the foot of it. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. 13 They are to be stoned or shot with arrows; not a hand is to be laid on them. Whether man or animal…”
*God was not being mean.
*He was teaching Israel that he is holy.
*Human beings (Who are all sinful) cannot just casually approach His holy presence on their own terms.
“Brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance…”

16 On the morning of the 3rd day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast. Everyone in the camp trembled. 17 Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain… 18 The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently. 19 As the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and the voice of God answered him. 24 The Lord replied, “Go down and bring Aaron up with you…” [Part way, but not all the way to the top when God gave the tablets and other laws as well]

Whenever we talk about the 10 Comm. It is important to point out God’s “Grace”.
“If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.”
[He can’t be anything else than what he is]

“It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
-Ephesians 2:8-10
EXODUS 20
1st Commandment
“And God spoke all these words: 2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. [So you don’t have to look to any other gods in my place] 3 “You shall have no other gods before me. [beside me, or in opposition to me] 4 “You shall not make for yourself an image [an idol or substitute for God] in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God…”
[“Righteous Jealousy”, someone else has something that is legitimately your.]
2nd Commandment
7 “You shall not misuse [Hebrew = Take in vain “carry or bare” his name in vain.] the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.”
“‘Do not swear falsely by my NAME and so profane the NAME of your God. I am the Lord.”

“Say to those who prophesy out of their own imagination … Woe to the foolish/wicked prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing! … 6 Their visions are false and their divinations a lie.”

“A prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.”

Jesus said; “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. ”

How to properly use God’s name
[Boundaries]
Obedience
Prayer (ACTS)
[Adore, Confess, Thank, Stuff]
Allow Him to save you rather than counting on yourself.

3rd Commandment
8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God.”
[Literal Sabbath day was for Israel]
[We worship on Resurrection day - Sunday]
And he also gave some to his companions.” 27 Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”

Good/God Boundaries
