Lent - Fruit of the Spirit - Kindness and Goodness

Fruit of the Spirit

Fruit Never out of Season

“Kindness” & “Goodness”

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,

KINDNESS, GOODNESS, faithfulness, gentleness,

and self-control…”

-Galatians 5:22

There are many random acts of kindness we can do today:

  1. Call a friend that you haven’t spoken to for a while.

  2. Send a letter to a grand parent or grandchild.

  3. Offer to pick up groceries for your elderly neighbor.

  4. Tell your family members how much you love and appreciate them.

  5. Send a motivational text to a friend who is struggling.

  6. Reach out to spend time with a friend, family member or neighbor who is experiencing loneliness.

  7. Give your seat to an elderly, disable, or pregnant lady.

  8. Say good morning.

  9. Pick up trash lying in the street.

  10. Smile and say hello to people you may pass every day, but have never spoken to before.

These are only just a few, but there are many other ways to show “kindness.”

“But while Joseph was there in prison, the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness, and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.”

Genesis 39:21

Psalm 18:50 says,

“…he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed, to David and His descendants forever.”

Romans 11:22 says,

“Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness.”

Proverbs 14:31

“….whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”

1 Thessalonians 5:15 says,

“Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other.”

A song that I think best describes “kindness”:

THY LOVING KINDNESS

vs. 1

Thy loving kindness is better than life,

Thy loving kindness is better than life.

Refrain: My lips shall praise Thee:

Thus shall I bless Thee.

I will lift up my hands unto the Lord.

vs. 2

I lift my hands up unto the Lord.

I lift my hands up unto the Lord.

Refrain: My lips shall praise Thee:

Thus shall I bless Thee.

I will lift up my hands unto the Lord.

vs. 3

I lift my voice up unto the Lord.

I lift my voice up unto the Lord.

Refrain: My lips shall praise Thee:

Thus shall I bless Thee.

I will lift up my hands unto the Lord.

vs. 4

I lift my heart up unto the Lord.

I lift my heart up unto the Lord.

Refrain: My lips shall praise Thee:

Thus shall I bless Thee.

I will lift up my hands unto the Lord.

Ways to show goodness:

  1. Focus on others.

  2. Offering a helping hand.

  3. Be there to listen.

  4. Send care packages – no matter how small.

  5. Stay connected with family and friends.

  6. Smile at others.

  7. Compliment others.

In Genesis 1:

God responds after each day of creation with, “it was good.”

1 Corinthians 15:33 Paul warns us,

“Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’”

Psalm 100:5 says,

“For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.

Peter encourages us in 1 Peter 2:2, 3

“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

In other words continue to be in

GOD’S WORD daily!

The song that fits this fruit is

God is So Good

It’s a song probably sang in Sunday School.

vs. 1

God is so good,

God is so good,

God is so good,

He’s so good to me.

vs. 2

He cares for me,

He cares for me,

He cares for me,

He’s so good to me.

vs. 3

He loves me so,

He loves me so,

He loves me so,

He’s so good to me.

vs. 4

God answers prayer,

God answers prayer,

God answers prayer,

He’s so good to me.

vs. 5

I’ll praise His name,

I’ll praise His name,

I’ll praise His name,

He’s so good to me.

Strive to have:

GOODNESS

AND

KINDNESS

in your life!

Amen.
