Patience at the Grocery

There was a man who noticed a mom

in a grocery store with

her three year-old daughter.

The little girl asked for cookies.

Her mom said, No, not right now.”

Her daughter started crying loudly.

Mom said patiently,

"Rachel, we’re almost done shopping"

The same thing happened in the candy aisle.

This time when mom said “no”,

her daughter kicked and screamed.

The man heard the mom say,

Mom said confidently;

"Rachel, you can do this.”

Only two more aisles and we’ll be done."

At the checkout counter, her girl reached for gum.

Her mom said “no” and put the gum back.

Her daughter screamed even louder.

Mom said very patiently,

"Rachel, we’ll be through this checkout stand in five

minutes and then we can go home and

both have a nice nap."

The man saw them out in the parking lot and

complimented the mom saying;

"I couldn’t believe how patient you were with your little girl Rachel."

“You know, you’re a really good mom.”

The mom said to him;

"Thank you, but, my little girl’s name

is not Rachel, it’s Ashley.

I’m Rachel.

I was talking to myself.”

Question:

What do you need to talk to yourself about this week?

Do you know that whatever it is,

God has already talked to you about it in the Bible.

And do you know what he says?

To some things he says to us,

 and we need to say to ourselves;

No, not right now.”

(Like mom said about the cookies.)

To some things God says to us,

and we need to say to ourselves;

"Self, we’re almost done"

(Hang in there)

To all things God says to us,

 and we need to say to ourselves;

"You can do this.”

(Like mom said about almost being done.

You can persevere!)

To some things God says,

 and we need to say to ourselves;

Only two more aisles and we’ll be done."

we’ll be through this checkout stand in five minutes

and then we can go home and

both have a nice nap."

(Hang in there, whatever it is,

“This too shall pass”.

This problem is in the home stretch.

Soon it will be time for a nap.

Relief is coming)

My prayer for you is the prayer that Paul had for the

people in Colossae where he said;

“Since the day we heard about you,

we have not stopped praying for you.

We continually ask God to fill you with the

knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and

understanding that the Spirit gives so that you may

live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way:

bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge

of God, being strengthened with all

power according to his glorious might so that you

may have great endurance and patience…”

-Colossians 1:9-11

Prayer:

Lord, help us to trust you to help us deal with

“everything” in a patient way.

Just like Jesus did.

In Jesus’ name.

Amen!

God bless you… Pastor Dave
